A Lil Bit of an Introduction (Or Something Like That)

Hello.

.     .     .

My name is Sofia, most people call me Sof or Sofie/Sofi.

I have always had a difficult time categorizing myself, in any way, or fitting myself into one specific social mold…

& then one day I learned the word eclectic.

I absolutely fell in love, and since, have elevated it to have more than just a fantastic connotation for me. The following is courtesy of Merriam-Webster:

.     .     .

“Eclectic comes from a Greek verb meaning “to select” and was originally applied to ancient philosophers who were not committed to any single system of philosophy; instead, these philosophers selected whichever doctrines pleased them from every school of thought. Later, the word’s use broadened to cover other selective natures.”

eclectic

adj

1: composed of elements drawn from various sources

2: selecting what appears to be best in various doctrines, methods, or styles

noun

1: one who uses a method or approach that is composed of elements drawn from various sources

.     .     .

(I know that most of you probably already knew that word, but) Basically, I wanted to give a little bit of a clue as to why I considered it so appropriate to use when I was trying to figure out what the hell I was going to call this thing.

I never really thought that I could or would ever actually start something like this even though I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed writing. I could never stick to one subject, or niche, or anything.

My mind likes to wander; I like to let it do so freely.

I have an array of interests that tend to meander around art and adventure.

Music, to me, is something almost other-worldly; magical, at least.

I am mostly certain that the only thing that is actually real & important is the energetic connection that we have to each other & to the natural world – which, thanks to the egocentrism that we developed as a global society throughout the history of the human species, is very difficult to develop nowadays.

I find myself at a strange point of reluctant, yet satisfactory, acceptance in my life. I hate the illusion of society, but also truly enjoy the luxuries that come with the “luck” of being born into a middle-class family in the 20th century. A power-struggle between by inner hippie & inner foodie/ traveler/photographer/raver… (lol).

AnYwHo

I decided it was time to finally put my thoughts out there for people to read because I realized that I have derived a sort of personal philosophy that has really worked to create wellness in my life. I hope that my mental chaos will prove to be at least somewhat relatable, and show you all you fellow mad people, that we’re really not as crazy as we may feel sometimes.

I hope you’ll stick around to get to know me as I start to open up on this new platform of expression we all know & love as: a blog.

Laters baby,

-S
